Telangana State IT and Municipal Minister KTR answered questions asked by members of the opposition on the beautification of ponds in Hyderabad city during the question hour in the Legislative Assembly.
Responding to the question, Minister KTR replied, “We are monitoring and developing the ponds in the GHMC.
We are setting up walking tracks around the ponds and focusing on beautification and the diversion of sewage.Of the 185 ponds under GHMC, 127 ponds have been identified for development, of which 48 ponds have been developed.
For development and beautification of ponds, Rs.407 crore 30 lakhs were sanctioned.Already, the TRS govt spent Rs.218 crore on these ponds.GHMC undertook the beautification of 63 ponds at an estimated cost of Rs 94 crore 17 lakhs and completed the beautification of 48 ponds.Work on the remaining 15 ponds is in progress.”
Also, Minister KTR said that GHMC had undertaken the development of 45 ponds and repairs damaged by the floods at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore and 50 lakh.
Minister KTR said, “A division would be soon set up for the development of ponds under GHMC, and we will appoint a special commissioner for this.”
