In 10 states, a museum dedicated to tribal freedom fighters will be opened

New Delhi, Nov 29, : , To recognize the contributions of tribals who fought against British rule, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs sanctioned the Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum in 10 states.
These museums were sanctioned in Gujarat and Jharkhand under the centrally sponsored scheme “Support to Tribal Research Institutes”.

The ministry stated in the Lok Sabha Monday.

India celebrated its first Tribal Day on November 15.This was the birth anniversary Birsa Munda’s tribal freedom fighter, religious leader, and folk hero.Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened a museum in Jharkhand to honor the leader.

The ministry stated that Janjatiya Gaurav Divas has been declared by the government of India to honor all tribal freedom fighters, to remember and acknowledge their contribution to freedom struggle, and to re-energise efforts for socio-economic development in the tribal regions.

It also stated that the ministry is implementing “Support To Tribal Research Institute” and Tribal Festival, Research, Information and Mass Education, which are various activities to promote tribal culture across the country.

The ministry stated that Tribal Research Institutes were conducting documentation (audio-videos, photos, and documentation in written form) of indigenous knowledge systems and practices, as well as customs and cultures of the tribes.

The ministry is also focusing its efforts on research, publication of books, and documentation to promote the rich tribal cultural heritage.

The ministry stated that a digital repository viz Tribal Digital Document repository was created to preserve and promote tribal cultural heritage.It contains all research papers, books and reports, as well as photos and videos.

The repository currently contains more than 10,000 photos, videos, and publications.
