Chennai, November 23, : , The Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP), C.Sylendra Babu directed police officers to have firearms in order for self-protection when patrolling remote or desolate locations. After paying flowers tributes at Tiruchi to S.Boominathan, the slain sub-inspector of police who was being chased by goat thieves on Sunday morning, the DGP made this statement.
Babu stated that the police have received instructions to keep firearms in their possession.The law also allows police officers to use them to defend themselves against deadly attackers.
The DGP spoke to Tiruchi reporters and stated that officers should never hesitate to carry firearms in extreme situations to defend their lives.
Boominathan, the DGP stated that he had bravely acted during the crisis and chased the goat-thefters for 15km to fulfill his duty.
He had finally caught them at dawn on Sunday.
Sylendra Babu stated that Boominathan had taken the weapon from the goat thieves, and even told their families about the theft.
But he didn’t expect them to take the machete and kill him.Boominathan was described by DGP as a hero.He had received commando training, and the Chief Minister’s police medal.
According to the Tamil Nadu DGP, three juveniles and two adults were arrested in connection with the attack on the police officer.
He also stated that video footage was used for evidence.
Sylendra Babu expressed gratitude to M.K.Stalin announced a solatium amounting to Rs 1 crore for the Boominathan family and a job in government to one of his relatives.
