Chennai, November 17, : , The Tamil Nadu BJP’s lawyer’s wing wants strict action against a small group of lawyers that opposed the transfer of Chief Judge of Madras High Court of Madras to the Meghalaya High Court.

The BJP lawyer wing leader said that other than the present protest against the transfer of serving Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee, the same group had conducted protests against the transfer of former Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Justice Vijaya Thahilramani.According to the leader of the BJP’s lawyer wing, protests were held against Justice Vijaya Thahilramani, former Chief Justice Madras High Court and the current protest against Sanjib Banerjee being transferred.

R.C.Paul Kanagaraj while speaking to IANS said, “We have supported the decision taken by the Collegium which would be in the best interests of judiciary and 574 advocates have signed it.”.Paul Kanagaraj, speaking with IANS, said that he supported Collegium’s decision.574 advocates signed it.

A section of advocates, including 31 designated senior advocates, had voiced protest against the transfer of Justice Sanjib Banerjee from the post of Chief Justice of the Madras High Court to Meghalaya High Court.A group of advocates including 31 senior advocates had protested against Justice Sanjib Banerjee’s transfer from Chief Justice of Madras High Court, to Meghalaya High Court.

These advocates had written to the Collegium against the transfer of Justice Sanjib Banerjee that he was serving in a High Court with a sanctioned strength of 75 judges and transferring him to Meghalaya High court, which has only strength of four judges, was not good in the interests of judiciary.The advocates wrote to the Collegium opposing Justice Sanjib Banerjee’s transfer.

They claimed that Justice Banerjee was currently serving as Chief Justice in a High Court having a sanctioned strength 75 judges.Transferring him to Meghalaya High Court, with only four judges, would not be in the best interests of the judiciary.

The advocates protesting on the transfer of Justice Banerjee had also raised the issue that he joined the Madras High Court as the Chief Justice only in January 2021 and that the stint of ten months was too short a period.Advocates protesting Justice Banerjee’s transfer had raised concerns that Justice Banerjee joined Madras High Court in January 2021 as Chief Justice and that his ten-month stint was not long enough.

Justice Sanjib Banerjee was an outspoken judge and had issued orders against the Election Commission of India during the run-up to the April 2021 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.Justice Sanjib Banerjee, a outspoken judge, had given orders against Election Commission of India in the lead-up to Tamil Nadu’s April 2021 Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, the Union Justice department issued a notification on Tuesday transferring Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandary of the Allahabad High Court to the Madras High Court.On Tuesday, Union Justice issued a notice transferring Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandary from the Allahabad High Court (Madras High Court) Justice Bhandary had earlier served as the acting Chief Justice of Allahabad High court and is due to retire on September 22, 2022.

Justice Bhandary was previously the Chief Justice at Allahabad High Court and will retire in September 22nd 2022.
