Visakhapatnam : , Nov 29 : , The senior priest of Tirumala temple Pala Seshadri was taken to the hospital after suffering cardiac arrest.He was popularly known as Dollar Seshadri.He was 74.
Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Tirumala Tirupati Devisthanam (TTD), suffered cardiac arrest and died on the way to a hospital.

He was visiting the city to attend ‘Kartikadeepotsavam’.He was there to attend some rituals at TTD Kalyana Mandipam on Sunday night.

According to TTD sources he complained about chest pains at 4 a.m.The officials rushed him to Apollo Hospital, but he died shortly thereafter.

The body of Seshadri has been kept at King George Hospital, and officials are making arrangements to move it to Tirupati where his last rites were performed on Tuesday.

Since 1978, Seshadri has served the famed hill shrine.Although he reached superannuation July 31, 2006, successive governments extended his term as OSD.

Seshadri is an expert on the history and rituals of the temple.He was also the most prominent figure in TTD.This organization manages the affairs at the richest Hindu temple in the world.Seshadri was a regular visitor to the temple as a VIP.

Seshadri served as the divine guide to President Giani Zail Singh, Prime Minsters P V Narasimha Rao and A B Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh, NarendraModi, chief ministers, governors of many states, and other VIPs during their visit.

The super priest, Dollar Seshadri, was named after the dollar that was attached to his neck.

He enjoyed good relations with bureaucrats and politicians.

Since 2007 when the scandal over the theft of 310 gold dollars (called dollars) from the temple treasurery was reported, Seshadri is in the center of a storm.

In 2005, Seshadri was appointed to the position.

After a vigilance investigation indicted him along with two other deputy executives officers, he was suspended in August 2008.

TTD reinstated Seshadri after he wrote to TTD claiming he was innocent and served a legal notice.

Seshadri was granted another extension in 2010 by Congress leader Magunti Gopal Reddy Achallenging the same in Andhra Pradesh High Court via a Public Interest Litigation.

The petitioner claimed that he was given undue favors by the TTD, despite his name being involved in numerous scandals involving jewels and ornaments at the temple.He also urged the court for narco analysis and brain mapping on Seshadri.

2011: The Andhra Pradesh High Court rejected Seshadri’s request to extend his services.However, the super priest approached the Supreme Court who ruled in his favor on the grounds that a PIL could not be filed on service-related matters.

Seshadri has been receiving OSD extensions since then.This is a record in TTD history.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy, has expressed shock and grief at the passing of TTD OSD Seshadri.

The Chief Minister expressed his condolences for the Seshadri family, who had been with TTD since 1978.
