Chennai, Nov 29, : , Three people were arrested by Customs officials at Chennai airport on charges of trying to smuggle gold. The statement made here by the Commissioner of Customs, Chennai International Airport stated that a male passenger from Ramanathapuram arrived in Abu Dhabi via Etihad Airways on November 28.
Officials from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), intercepted the passenger.They found a gold ingot hidden in a coffeemaker when they checked his baggage.
The Customs seized the gold, which weighed 2.59 kg and was worth approximately Rs 1.12 crore.
The officials arrested the passenger and two receivers and are continuing their investigation.
