However, the Mayor of Agra Municipal Corporation dismissed the concern.

The government’s misplaced priorities are the reason the city is still so disorganized and dirty.”

River Connect Campaign members feel that officials are more interested in organising festivals and fairs than they are fixing the basic problems.Locals stated that cleaning up the city, streamlining traffic management plans or improving law and order are not top priorities.

The Yamuna River and the city are not in the hands of local politicians.Although public toilets are now available, many people continue to use the streets and drains for their sex.

“A strange smell or odour is felt as you approach the city.It lasts until you are out of the city.”

Surendra Sharma (President of Braj Mandal Historic Heritage Conservation Society) says, “It’s no wonder that nobody wants to spend the night in Agra.”

Agra’s history haunts its future.Residents are now suggesting a change in name (perhaps Agrasen Nagar) to get a favorable response from Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister.
