Bommai orders investigation into a tender kickback row that erupted in K’taka against ruling BJP

Bengaluru, Nov 26th : , Basavaraj Bommai, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, is facing another challenge in defending his government against major allegations that he forced contractors to pay 40 percent kickbacks.He has ordered an investigation into the matter.
The matter has become more complicated because the complaint was also sent to the Prime Minister’s Office, (PMO), following sensational claims about the Bitcoin scandal.

Karnataka Contractors Association has sent a letter to PMO claiming that they are being “tortured” by politicians and bureaucrats for 40% kickbacks in all major government projects.

A delegation of Congress leaders was led by D.K.On Thursday, Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah, Opposition leader, met Governor Thaawarchand Gelot and demanded that the President’s Rule be invoked in the state to address rampant corruption.

The delegation also cited a letter sent to the PMO office by the Contractors Association with 40 percent kickback allegations and previous charges against the ruling BJP by Panchayat Raj, Rural Development Minister K.S.Eshwarappa in the current government, and Basavanagouda Patil Yatnal, a BJP MLA, during the tenure under B.S.Yediyurappa.

Chief Minister Bommai stated that two committees, headed by retired Judges, would be formed to examine the tender estimates and conditions according to the state cabinet’s decision.

“The Chief Secretary was instructed to take the appropriate action if there were any irregularities in the tender process.

He stated that he had instructed for special scrutiny of the tenders that were finalised since I assumed office as Chief Minister.

“I have placed an order for the installation of a system that generates bills automatically based upon the work done by the contractors and seniority.

He stated that tenders should be submitted within the timeframe given that any delay could lead to suspicion.

During the inspection, any irregularities in the tender process will be revealed.

Bommai stated that although the contractor’s recent letter to the Prime Minister does not contain any specific information about the tender process, a probe was ordered to ensure transparency.

Sources claim that the PMO requested an inquiry into the allegations.

The inquiry is being ordered according to instructions from the Central government.
