San Francisco, Aug 12 : Telegram CEO Pavel Durov blamed Apple for its shady App Review process for Stores, which is preventing the encryption-encrypted messaging platform’s release of an update for its application that will “revolutionise the way people communicate in the world of messaging”. On his Telegram channel, Durov said the upcoming update was put in the Apple’s “review” for two weeks.
“The only thing we find disconcerting is that we are frequently not able to distribute the latest versions of Telegram due to the obscurity of the’review process’ that is imposed on mobile apps everywhere by technology monopolies” Durov said.
“For instance, our forthcoming update — set to change the way people communicate in messages -it has been sat in Apple’s “review” for two weeks, with no explanation or any feedback offered by Apple,” he added.
He said that If Telegram is one of the top 10 most popular apps worldwide is getting the same treatment, “one can only imagine the challenges faced by the smaller developers of apps”.
“It isn’t only demoralising; it results in direct financial losses for hundreds of thousands of mobile apps across the globe,” he said.
“This is to the in addition of the 30 percent tax Apple and Google pay app developers.This they claim is supposed to fund the resources required to evaluate applications,” he added.
In June the encrypted messaging platform announced a the possibility of a paid subscription to its platform that could cost about $5 (about 400 rupees) per month.
The company claims it currently has more than 700 million active monthly users (MAUs) and has been named one of the top five downloaded apps in the world this year.
