Recently, the Andhra Pradesh government has asked the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to direct the Telangana government to stop power generation from Srisailam.

Citing the exhaustion of water levels at the Srisailam reservoir, the Chief Engineer of Irrigation of Andhra Pradesh has written a letter to KRMB stating that Telangana government withdrawing water against the protocols.

In his letter, AP Irrigation Engineer Narayan Reddy said Telangana is going against the operational protocol for irrigation purposes of the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) system and Krishna delta system and using up Srisailam reservoir water for power generation.

Besides, the process shall only carry when the water has released to NSP and Prakasam barrage for irrigation requirements. Moreover, the inflows into the project were nil and the withdrawal of water at the rate of 12,000 cusecs per day, through the left bank powerhouse, will obstruct the maintenance of the reservoir level.

Meanwhile, TS Genco said the government is looking into the matter and argues that only one and two units out of the six reversible 150 MW pumps of the 900 MW left bank powerhouse are in use and generating power.Due to an accident in the powerhouse on August 21, the power generation has slowed down, and partial power generation resumed only after five days.
