Hyderabad 6 Aug : Hyderabad, Aug 6 : Telangana government on Saturday called upon the Centre to help the handloom and textile industries in the state, urging the reduction of the GST on textiles as well as removing all taxes, including GST, on handlooms.State Minister of Industry K.T.Rama Rao has written a letter to Union Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal asking for funds to fund the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, the establishment of Handloom Export Promotion Council and National Textile Research Institute in Hyderabad and the establishment of an Institute of Handloom Technology.
He also sought money to upgrade of powerlooms, the establishment of 15 handloom clusters that are block-level and a massive powerloom cluster in Sircilla.
He said that the Centre has done nothing to support the handloom and textile sector in the state.
The minister accused the Centre of not offering any financial assistance to the industry of textiles, the minister claimed that the Modi government’s “disdain” for the textile industry which employs the highest amount of individuals in the country, following agriculture, is extremely unfortunate.
The claim is that the Central government has not given any additional financial aid to the state’s handloom and textile employees, Rama Rao said that instead of making false claims about the help provided by the Centre to the Telangana handloom and textile industry The Prime Minister as well as other Central ministers should seriously attempt to extend their assistance to weaver of the state.
