Hyderabad, Nov 28, : Telangana’s health authorities issued an alert on Sunday in light of Omicron, a new variant of Covid-19 that was reported from South Africa and other countries.

Harish Rao, Health Minister, met with top officials from the medical and health departments to review preparations and monitor the new variant.

Srinivasa Rao, director of public health, said that no new variant has been reported in the country.

He stated that the state is ready to handle any situation and advised people to not panic but to continue taking all precautionary steps.

He stated that every citizen should be aware of Covid safety measures.

He stated that the department was closely monitoring the situation.

He said that nobody knows the exact effects, severity, or complications of the new variant.

We don’t know much about the new variant.He said that whenever we get an alert during a pandemic, it is important to be alert.

He was referring to the advisory from the union health ministry to all countries to be on alert.

Rao stated that airport passengers are being screened using RT-PCR tests to detect new variants.

He stated that passengers who have tested positive for any of the above diseases are being kept in 14-day isolation, and their health is being closely watched.

According to the official, the state has taken sufficient measures to combat a third wave.

The state has been recording fewer than 200 new infections per day for the last 4-5 months.There was no increase in infections in the last two days.

He stated that with the decrease in cases, some negligence was noted with record to vaccination and following Covid safety precautions.”Whatever the variant may be, it’s up to us to deal with it.He said that one should not forget to wear a face mask, hand wash and maintain social distance while getting the vaccine.

Ramesh Reddy, director of medical education, appealed for people to be responsible citizens and to take Covid vaccines.

He claimed that nearly 25 lakh people didn’t receive a second dose of vaccine, despite having completed the gap between doses.

90% of the 2.77 million targeted people have received their first dose, while only 45% have received their second dose.
