In the meet held at the official residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the key decision was taken.

Immediately after the meet, the Congress Core Committee meet was started to discuss the same. The Congress president Sonia Gandhi came for the residence of the prime minister to take part in the meet.

The ministers Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, Pallam Raju and Jaipal Reddy also attended the meeting.

Sources said though the cabinet discussed the major demand of the Seemandhra leaders to make Hyderabad a Union Territory, the panel finally felt that it would not be possible as there would be severe backlash from Telangana.

Opposition from BJP is also said to be a reason for the panel’s disinclination to consider UT proposal for Hyderabad.

According to sources, the total revenue of both the regions would be taken into account and based on it, a financial package will be worked out by the Finance Commission.

The bill is now expected to be presented to the Indian President and will then be put in front of the parliament before it can come into practice
