Taipei 8 August : China is using its massive military exercises around Taiwan to prepare for an attack of Taiwan, which is self-governed Taiwan, Taipeis Foreign Minister Joseph Wu claimed on Tuesday “China has employed exercises and military playbook to prepare for an attack of Taiwan,” RT quoted Wu as saying in the press conference.
Beijing is involved in “large-scale drills and missile launches as cyber-attacks, disinformation campaign, and economic coercion in order to lower the public’s morale in Taiwan” The diplomat said.
China began war games, including live-fire exercises in six areas of the sea within Taiwan on 2 August in the wake of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
China’s military exercises demonstrate Beijing does not need to invade Taiwan to take over the island -rather, it can choke the island’s self-governing and cut Taiwan off from outsiders, as per Chinese and American analysts.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) exercises, which officially began on August 4 focused on six zones that basically surrounded Taiwan restricting access to civilian vessels as well as aircraft in the area, while forces conducted live-fire exercises and missile launches.
Meng Xiangqing Professor at the PLA National Defense University, said that the six areas were selected to illustrate how China could block Taiwan’s ports, strike the most important military facilities and cut off access to foreign troops that could assist Taiwan.
“Connect all six of them in the form of a noose with the knot of the noose to the right in the direction to the southwest,” Meng said in an interview with the state-run broadcaster CCTV.
