Mumbai, Nov 28, 2008 : Steven Spielberg, a renowned Hollywood filmmaker, says that the film adaptation of West Side Story is his most difficult work. Tony Kushner, winner of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize for screenwriting, created ‘West Side Story’.
It tells the classic story of young love and fierce rivalries in 1957 New York City.
Spielberg shares his feelings about directing the film, which combines the best of Broadway and Hollywood.
“This film is probably my most difficult.Spielberg stated that ‘West Side Story’ was undoubtedly the greatest theatre score ever written.
“It can be very intimidating to take a masterpiece, and make it through different eyes and sensibilities without compromising its integrity.It is generally considered to be the greatest theatre music ever written.”
Speilberg said: “But, I believe that great stories need to be told over-and-over again in part because it allows me to reflect different perspectives on the work and moments in my life.”
The film stars Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler.Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez and Mike Faist star in the film.Josh Andres Rivera, Ana Isabelle.
Rita Moreno, Brian d’Arcy James, and Corey Stoll are also featured.
Speilberg stated that “What’s so wonderful about this story? That, regardless of how the world changes around us, the lessons and insights it provides us with do not.”
“It’s a story with a timeless appeal that has captured audiences for decades.It is not only a love story, but also a culturally significant piece that focuses on the idea that love transcends prejudices and intolerance.This premise has never lost its relevance to me.”West Side Story” means so much to so numerous people, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to give it new life.
Disney India will release “West Side Story” on December 10th from 20th Century Studios.
