Bengaluru August 31, : Students and Dalit groups and other have launched a statewide protest against the government of BJP as well as the Karnataka police on September 2, deploring the lack of action against rape suspect Lingayat seer Murugha Shivamurthy Sharanaru of Murugha Mutt in Chitradurga of Karnataka.Posters have been published by different groups via social media urging the arrest immediately of Murugha who is being investigated in an assault case brought by girls who are minors.The protesters will gather at the Freedom Park in Bengaluru at 10.30 a.m.
The posters stated that the protest would be supported by women’s groups as well as labour unions, farmer and daily wage unions of workers minorities, NGOs, minority institutions advocacy associations, and sexual minorities.
The seer accused of rape is having a meeting with close aides, including the 4th accused Paramashivaiah at the Mutt on Wednesday.The District and Sessions court is hearing the bail application of the seer who is accused of rape on Thursday.
Sources in the mutt claimed that the meeting would decide on the next direction of action in the event that the court denies the bail request of the seer accused of being in jail.
The representatives of the Child Welfare Committee have shifted the majority of the girls students out of the Murugha Mutt school following the change.
Former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy stated on Wednesday that it’s not right to accuse political leaders of not being aware of the POCSO case against the seer.”There is no way we have a choice to not pay attention to the case.The authorities in charge will be the ones deciding this issue and taking actions.The politics should not be mingled with this incident, and caution should be taken not to harm religious sentiments in the same way,” he added.
Posts that criticize the political leaders and major parties regarding the issue have been viewed as viral.”Do not be apathetic with the seer who is accused of rape.Siddaramaiah who claims to be an socialist and progressive should have risen his voice for the victims of rape who are minors from the oppressed classes.”
The posts also criticize the former CM B S Yediyurappa declaring that morality should be the first priority over caste.
