Superstar Mahesh Babu’s visual extravaganza Spyder, a Telugu – Tamil bilingual, directed by AR Murugadoss has been released in over 2700 screens worldwide today. Let’s check out the review.

What’s it about :

Shiva (Mahesh Babu) an intelligence officer who solves crime with the help an crime alarming software. He falls in blind date and love with Charlie (Rakul Preet). Just when we think the film is running smoothly on romantic track, here enters a psychopath villain (SJ Suryah) who is on mission to spread havoc, panic and finish the mankind. Shiva confronts with the antagonist and the rest of the story is cat and mouse between them. Watch in theaters how Shiva saved the mankind.

Artists and Performances :

Mahesh Babu has delivered an intense performance. He is at his usual subtle best with his adequate enough expressions to emote the situations. He performed spine shivering stunts in action blocks. There is nothing new to talk about his looks. The super handsome Superstar looks tailor made guy to play an IB Officer. SJ Suryah stuns one and all. He is raw and ruthless. Without any doubt, South audience haven’t seen such an evil act in long time. Rahul Preet has no importance in the story and so does her act which irritates. Bharath is good with his role. Priya Darshi played a highly unlike character.

Technical Talk :

Harris Jayaraj’s album has already received a decent response from the music lovers. Boom Boom and Ciciliya will be enjoyed on screen. The background score is ultimate and on par with any Indian thriller that has ever graced silver screen. The background score magician lived up to his reputation. Visuals from Santhosh Sivan are arresting. The DI work is simply superb. Production values are super rich. You could see the feel of 120cr budget film in numerous frames. Editing is weak. This is one section which failed in technical department.

Analysis :

When you see the name AR Murugadoss on poster, you would expect an out and out edge of seat thriller with human emotions like Ghajini or Thuppakki. You can barely point out flaws since Murugadoss is one filmmaker who perfectly blends commercial ingredients and story telling sensibilities. Spyder is flaw filled. May be, Murugadoss couldn’t manage the burden of a Superstar who has to be introduced to Tamil audience. At times, Shiva is underplayed. Why would Telugu audience bear that since they are watching a Superstar on-screen. The film is dark, pretty much like a Nolan’s batman story, but with imperfectly blended commercial points. Editing makes the narration of Murugadoss even more sluggish and slow. Spyder may disappoint if your are high on expectations.

Plus Points :

* Mahesh Babu – SJ Suryah

* Cinematography

* Music

* Confrontation scenes

Minus Points :

* Love track of Rakul Preet

* Dragged second half

* Editing

Brief Note :

Enter with low expectations
