“Sony has overtaken Microsoft in regards of console sales as well as the installed base with more than double the number of Xbox in the previous generation.” Microsoft said in the documents.

Microsoft did not release Xbox One sales figures since the year 2016.

Sony has also stopped reporting PS4 sales and its sales over the lifetime remain at 117.2 million.

As per the document, Microsoft may have sold less than 58.5 million units of Xbox One consoles.

Microsoft seems to be closing the gap with its Xbox Series S / X consoles.

According to Ampere Analysis, “Sony ended 2021 with PS5 total sales of 17 million units. This is which is around 1.6 times the rate of Xbox Series sales.”

In the last month Sony cautioned about lower sales of its PlayStation (PS) gaming consoles to come as well with cutting its outlook for profit growth annually in the wake of its $3.7 billion purchase of Bungie the creator of Destiny and the hugely loved Halo franchise.

Sony has revealed that it sold 2.4 million PlayStation 5 consoles in its June quarter, a decrease of 4 percent from 2.3 million sold in the same time last year.

PS5 lifetime sales have exceeded 21.7 million.

Microsoft previously said that it anticipates revenues to drop in the mid to low percentages, driven by a decline in first-party gaming on Xbox consoles.

In the June quarter, the gaming revenue decreased by 7 percent and 5 percent in the same currency.
