New Delhi, November 20, 2018 : .Despite global supply and component shortages, CMOS (CMOS) image sensor growth or smartphone camera growth are expected to exceed 6 billion units by 2021.
According to a report. Counterpoint Research predicts that smartphone imaging systems will see continued hardware upgrades, and CIS content per phone will increase to an average of 4.1 this year.
Tarun Pathak (Director of Smartphone Research at Counterpoint), stated that “a big driver has been Triple-and-above main cameras setups,” which accounted to two-thirds all smartphone sales during the first half.”
He stated in a statement that “what is interesting is where most of that growth comes from — Africa and Latin America, India, and other emerging markets.”
The focus has been on high-resolution, and 48MP+ became a standard for the smartphone industry.
We are seeing growth in emerging markets again, and 64MP is becoming a significant segment.Pathak stated that high-resolution is crucial for the most contested price range globally, the wholesale $100-$399 group.
The report stated that two-thirds (or more) of the devices used in the second quarter were high-resolution and expects further increases throughout the year.
It isn’t about mega-pixel counts, processor power or camera quality.

Ethan Qi (counterpoint’s chief analyst for camera components), stated that algorithm development is a key factor in camera system success because of the increasing number and complexity.
Pathak says that as we go through post-Covid upgrades, particularly in Android heavy markets (and other Android countries), we see OEMs offering more sophisticated cameras hardware to all segment customers.
