SL Prez asks govt institutions to cut expenses

Colombo 16 August : Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed heads of all government institutions to follow the guidelines released by the Treasury regarding the limits of the government’s spending.
In a press release issued on Monday the media unit of the President announced that the presidents of institutions that exceed the limits will be required to borrow personal funds to pay for the costs, Xinhua news agency reported.

The media unit stated that the instructions have been sent to minister secretaries, the heads of departments provincial secretaries, corporation presidents, institutions boards, and the government-owned trading companies.

The government has decided to reduce the expenses of public institutions in order to help with the economic problems that the country faces The media unit reported.

President Wickremesinghe advised the heads of institutions not to rent new buildings.Also, the approval of the Treasury is required prior to renting new vehicles or expanding lease agreements in place.
