Dhaka, Dec 6, : Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has withdrawn from the New Zealand tour citing personal reasons.The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), said Monday .BCB president Nazmul Hazmul Hassan confirmed that Shakib was granted a leave.He will be unable to play in two Tests against New Zealand, which are part of ICC Test Championship .
” We have accepted his request.We have said for a while that we don’t object to a player taking a break or rest.However, it must be done in writing.We want to know in advance about any such decision, as it is difficult for us to make quick decisions.From January, if anyone wants a break, he has to inform us in advance so that we can prepare alternatives,” said BCB president Hassan, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
“We have to allow players to rest if they need it, regardless of whether he is crucial to the team or not.Shakib isn’t hurt and he didn’t ask for leave to rest.He requested it because of family issues.He said .
” We have been stressing about getting informed before.It can be a problem if the request is made right before a series.(Applying earlier will allow us prepare other players.”
Hassan was asked if Shakib’s sudden withdrawal from the series was embarrassing.We were not aware of his request.
It is true that everything has been happening informally up to now.We are looking at new rules to reduce confusion and increase transparency.”
The team will depart for New Zealand on December 9 for a five week tour that includes seven days in quarantine as well as two warm-up games.However, this is not the first time Shakib has pulled out of a series.
He also opted out for the New Zealand tour in March due to the same reason.He also sat out the Sri Lanka tour which followed to prepare for the T20 World Cup.
