With the dissastrous result of Shakuntalam, Director Gunasekhar who was once known for blockbusters like Okkadu, Choodalani Undi from now on will be added to the list of fade out directors.His recent mythological outing Shakuntalam starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu is declared as box office disaster.
Shaakuntalam has failed to lure audiences to the theatre.After earning Rs 4.85 crore in two days, the Sunday collections were equally disappointing.The mythological drama earned Rs 2 crore approx on day 3, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk.This brings the total collection to Rs 6.85 crore.
Released in multiple languages, the film had 19.67% and 12.18% Telugu occupancy, in 2D and 3D, respectively.The average Hindi occupancy stood at 9.33%.
Now, to maintain a steady run in the cinema halls, Shaakuntalam must pick up pace during the week which seems to be impossible with the word of mouth and poor ratings.The movie was a colossal flop in every way.The situation was similar at the box office in the United States, where it collected a quarter of a million dollars.

The film, directed by Gunasekhar, was purchased by an overseas distributor for Rs 3.30 crore.However, because of the low collections after the first weekend, the distributor is expected to lose around Rs 2 crore on the investment.
