London 12 August : Scotland have claimed the European qualifying place for the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup after their series win against the Netherlands. After a victory in the opening of three games, Katherine Fraser’s team won the place for South Africa when they clinched an eight-wicket victory in the second match to advance to an unbeatable 2-0 lead.
Scotland then won the third game by 123 runs.The win was dominated by centuries scored by openers Ailsa lister and Darcey Carter, as per ICC.
Eight Scottish bowlers took wickets in three matches with Robyn van Oosterom (39 and 43 in Matches 2 and 3) the only Dutch player to demonstrate resistance with bat.
Scotland were flawless as a unit and held Netherlands to scores of three wickets, 78, 94/7, and 100/7 over the three matches.In a rotation of her bowlers with skill, Fraser, already with 24 senior T20Is to her name she chimed in with wickets of her own to open the bowling.
Scotland joins Scotland alongside USA, UAE and Indonesia as Associate qualifiers for the tournament, with the latter booking tickets for their first World Cup of any type after defeating Papua New Guinea in a three-match series.
The final place for next year’s event will be determined in the African Qualifier in Botswana in September.The hosts will welcome Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Uganda.
South Africa will host the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in January of next year.
