London 1st September : Aid workers have pleaded for urgent donations in order to fight the “absolutely devastating” effects of floods in Pakistan as the latest satellite images confirmed that three-quarters of Pakistan is submerged, reports in the media claimed.The UK’s Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) launched an appeal to raise money to help the 33 million persons impacted by floods in Pakistan the European Space Agency (ESA) released stark images based on data gathered by its Copernicus satellite, The Guardian reported.
The images seem to support the Pakistani government’s assertion that more than three-quarters of the country – a region about as large of the UK is submerged by monsoon rain estimated to be 10 times more intense than normal the report stated.
“The Indus River has overflowed creating a vast lake that is of tens of kilometers long and wide” ESA said in an announcement.
The flooding has claimed the lives of more than 1,100 people including 399 children.The floods have caused the destruction of more than a million houses and destroyed livestock, crops and major infrastructure like bridges and roads.
On Thursday, Saleh Saeed, chief executive of the DEC the umbrella organisation for 15 of the most reputable UK aid charities, urged the British public to support.
“Time is vital, with conditions expected to worsen as the rain continues.We’re asking everyone to Please give what you canto help,” he said.
