Chennai 10 August : Director and actor Sasikumar on Wednesday felicitated fencing champion Bhavani Devi for winning the gold medal at the recent-concluded Commonwealth Games. On Twitter the actor Sasikumar director of the Tamil iconic film ‘Subramaniapuram” tweeted: “Congrats Bhavani Devi! Individual gold medal at the Commonwealth Championship 2022 London (in) Fencing.” Bhavani Devi made headlines last year when she made India proud by being the first Indian to be selected to compete in the Olympics in the sport of fencing.
Many do not know that Sasikumar had expressed his delight at Chadalavada’s Anandha Sundhararamana Bha Devi being the first fencer from India to be able to compete in the Olympics because he had aided the girl by offering her with financial aid at the time in time.
Bhavani is from a middle class family in Washermanpet in Chennai, was approached seven years ago by Sasikumar to raise funds to train her and compete in the fencing competition in Italy.Sasikumar was then able to help the girl with the sum of two lakhs.
Many years after, Bhavani continues to make the nation proud, winning numerous medals in the sport of fencing in the international circuit.
