Samsung develops high-performance SSD for enterprises

Seoul, December 25, : , Samsung Electronics developed the PM1743 SSD to support enterprise servers. It integrates the PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express 5.0) interface with Samsung’s sixth-generation VNAND.
According to the company, the PCIe 5.0 SSD SSD will offer nearly twice the data transfer speed and 30% more power efficiency than its predecessor.

“Our PCIe 5.0 SSD and the PCIe 6.0 product development that is underway will strengthen our technological leadership within the enterprise server market,” stated Yong Ho Song (Executive Vice President, Head of the Memory Controller Development Team, Samsung Electronics).

Intel worked with Samsung in testing the PM1743, Samsung’s latest PCIe NVMe SSD.Song said that they have worked together to resolve complicated technical problems encountered during PCIe 5.0’s initial evaluation.”

Samsung’s PM1743 has a sequential read speed up to 13,000 Megabytes per Second (MB/s), and a random speed of 2,500K input/output operation per Second (IOPS), which offer 1.9x, 1.7x and 1.9x respectively faster speeds than the PCIe 4.0-based previous products.

Furthermore, the write speeds were significantly increased with sequential writes speeds of 6,600MB/s, and random writes speeds of 250K IOPS.These speeds are also considerably faster, delivering speeds of 1.7x to 1.9x, respectively.

The company stated that these remarkable data transfer speeds will enable enterprise server manufacturers to deploy the PM1743 and enjoy an even higher level of performance.

The new SSD is also capable of delivering an improved power efficiency up to 608MB/s per Watt, which is about 30% more than the old generation.

It is anticipated that this will significantly lower the operating costs of server and data center servers, as well as reduce their carbon footprint.

The PM1743 is available in various capacities, from 1.92 Terabytes (TB), to 15.36TB.It will also be available in the 2.5-inch format factor and in the 3-inch EDSFF form factor (E3.S), which are both increasingly popular SSD forms that were created for next-generation data centers and enterprise servers.
