Vulgarity, nudity, and swearing in Over-The-Top (OTT) content have become increasingly common, leading to debates on censorship and creative freedom. While some argue that such content is a reflection of reality and should not be censored, others call for regulation to ensure that it is not offensive or harmful.
In the meantime, Bollywood actor Salman Khan has expressed his views on digital content and has called for censorship on Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms.
Salman believes that vulgar and explicit content should be checked, as it can be accessed by teenagers and can have a negative impact on them.
He added that clean content would attract more viewership and called for a control on the kind of content that is put up on digital platforms.
The actor also spoke about the importance of keeping personal lives separate from work.
He expressed concerns about actors who perform intimate scenes and exposing their bodies onscreen, which can lead to security issues.Salman said that actors do not need to cross the boundary, and should keep their work decent and respectful.
Salman has not yet made his debut on an OTT platform, but his recent release, “Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai” had a hybrid release, both in theaters and on ZEE5.Over the past few years, many Bollywood actors, including Saif Ali Khan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Shahid Kapoor, and Manoj Bajpayee have made their foray into the OTT world. The digital platform has given actors a chance to showcase their acting skills in a variety of roles, which were not available in mainstream cinema.
The debate around censorship on digital content has been ongoing for a while now. While some argue that censorship would restrict creative freedom, others believe that there should be a limit on what is shown on digital platforms, as it can be accessed by all age groups. As the popularity of digital platforms continues to rise, it becomes increasingly important to regulate the content that is uploaded.
