New Delhi, Nov 24, : .L Ronaldo Singh, one of India’s most ace sprint cyclists, was back on his feet after he received prompt and optimal intervention from the Sports Authority of India’s Athlete Wellness Centre.
He was feeling immobilised after feeling pain in his lower back following practice in Slovenia. Ronaldo Singh developed lower back spasms on the last day in Nova Mesto training before the team traveled to Andia, Portugal.
Within minutes of him alerting the SAI at midnight on Tuesday, the Athlete Wellness Centre was able to intervene via video conference and help reduce his pain.
Dr.
Danish, a top physiotherapist, was able guide RK Sharma, the coach, and the rider in making the most of the TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Neuron Stimulation) machine.
He also suggested some isometric exercises and medication.
Ronaldo Singh felt the pain diminish by half in about 15 minutes and was able get up on his feet.
Dr Pralay Majumdar (Head, Sports Science, Sports Authority of India), said that the prompt response on Tuesday night was in line with the philosophy behind the establishment of Athlete Wellness Centre.
He said, “It was important to provide the best intervention without losing time.”
Dr.Majumdar stated that 25 athletes have been helped by Athlete Wellness Center since its launch in June.
“We started this for TOPS Development Group athlete but have expanded it so that all athletes in the SAI National Centres of Excellence throughout the country can participate.”
