London 12 August : South Africa skipper Dean Elgar is not impressed by England’s newest aggressive and bold way of cricket known as ‘Bazball’ in honor of their new coach for Tests Brendon “Baz” McCullum — claiming that even though it has produced immediate results but rival teams will find an answer in the near future. The England Test team, under new coach McCullum and captain Ben Stokes defeated New Zealand at home 3-0 , and then beat India in the fifth Test that was rescheduled for Edgbaston to record four consecutive wins while playing the more aggressive manner of cricket.
South Africa will be taking on England in the three-Test series that starts on the 17th of August with the hosts looking to keep up with their impressive performances at Lord’s.
“The New England style is quite fascinating.However, I don’t think there’s a long-term viability in brave cricket, as I see that things even out with long periods of time in Test cricket.” Elgar was quoted as saying in Wisden Cricket Monthly.
Even former Australia captain Ricky Ponting recently expressed his reservations with England being capable of continuing its attacking approach in the intense Ashes series.
“So far, it’s been amazing and it has almost brought Test match cricket back to life in a way, isn’t it? It’s not just about coaching but also being capable of changing the mindset of certain of the English players to not be afraid of playing and to be completely focused on scoring runs.And when you do get the ball in your hands, play as hard as you possibly can and create nice and aggressive fields” Ponting had said in an episode of The ICC Review.
“The most interesting thing is that it’s that we’ll be Australia over there (in England) in the middle of next year to play an Ashes series.
When the stress of Ashes series arrives it will be fascinating to find out if the England team is ready to play in the same manner,” he had said.
Elgar also made a similar statement prior to the start of the three-Test series that was gruelling in which he stated that If the Black Caps had chosen to play in the series of three tests recently, England would have been crying over their wounds.
“There was a lot of parity between England and New Zealand (during the Test series) and had New Zealand taken their opportunities and their chances in the end, things could have been quite different.England could have come out with eggs on their face,” Elgar said.Elgar.
