S.Korea’s daily case numbers rise to above 4,000; death tolls hit record high

Seoul, Nov 27, : South Korea’s coronavirus cases surpassed 4,000.The number of deaths and critically ill patients reached new records on Saturday.This raises concerns about the spread of Covid-19, which is being managed under a phased plan for a gradual return of normal life.
4,068 new Covid-19 infections were reported in the country, with 4,045 local infections.This brings the total number of cases to 436,968, Yonhap reported, citing Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

The number was up 167, from 3,901 Friday, but lower than 4,115 Wednesday.

This was the highest level since January 2020 when the first case was reported in South Korea.

Critically ill patients reached an all-time high 634, an increase of 17 over the previous day.The death toll from Covid-19 jumped 52 more to 3,492.The fatality rate was 0.8 percent.

Seoul, the Gyeonggi Province, and Incheon, which are located in the western part of the country, reported 1,881, 1,105, and 287 cases respectively.

Busan, a port city in the southeast, had 104 while Gangwon Province (North Gyeongsang Province) reported 93, 95 and 95, respectively.

23 cases were received from overseas.

42.47 million people have had their first doses of Covid-19 vaccines.40.85 million, or 796.6%, have been fully vaccinated.

Since the country began to ease virus restrictions in the third phase of the “living with Covid-19”, scheme, concerns about an increase in new cases have grown.

South Korea had planned to move to the second stage, which is more relaxed, in mid-December.However, health officials have warned that the country may not achieve this if the current trend continues.

Concerns about a shortage in hospital beds, especially in the Greater Seoul area, which is home to approximately half of the country’s 52million inhabitants, are growing due to rising infections and critical cases.

Monday’s announcement by the government indicated that it would announce stronger antivirus measures to stop the spread of the virus.
