Russian Journalists put under house arrest following a home raid

Moscow 12 August : Russian journalist Marina Ovsyannikova who’s residence was searched in the last week, was placed under house arrest till the 9th of October for her criticism of the ongoing war between Moscow and Ukraine.
Russian news agencies reported on the decision of the Moscow tribunal on Thursday.according to the news agency dpa.

It’s part of an investigation into criminal charges against the 44-year-old Ovsyannikova for the alleged dissemination of false information regarding Russian Armed Forces.

She is likely to spend between five to 10 years in prison According to Interfax news agency.

Her home was searched by security guards on Wednesday, following which she was taken into custody.

Ovsyannikova was employed by Russian state television Channel One and had been believed to be loyal to the Kremlin until she held a banner against war in front of the camera in a news program in March.

The banner said: “Stop the war.Do not believe in the propaganda.You are being misled here.”

She spent a few months in Germany after which she worked in the German paper Die Welt.

In July, she again protested the conflict near the Kremlin.

According to Russian law the war between Moscow and Ukraine is described as an operation of military specialization and the penalties for criticizing the army’s tactics were increased in March.

Ovsyannikova has been charged with fines at the lower portion of the scale thus far.
