Moscow 9 Aug : Russia has temporarily removed its facilities for inspection under the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “Russia has officially has informed the United States .that our country was temporarily removing its facilities that are subject to inspections under the treaty from inspections,” the Ministry added on Monday.
Moscow was forced to stop inspections “as the consequence of Washington’s persistent efforts to restart inspections” under unethical conditions that created benefits to the US side, but hindering Russia to conduct inspections in the US.
The anti-Russian restrictions, enforced by Washington have disrupted travel between Russia and the US which makes it difficult for Russian inspection teams to travel to the places they need The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
The Ministry stated that both sides should “abandon unsuccessful attempts to deliberately speeding up return of inspections” and focus on removing all issues in the area, Xinhua news agency reported.
The statement said that the steps were only temporary and would be canceled when all issues are eliminated.
In 2010 Washington as well as Moscow have signed the New START, which stipulates limitations on the number of nuclear warheads that can be deployed as well as strategic delivery systems of both.
The New START, the last remaining nuclear arms control treaty in force between the two nuclear superpowers is able to be extended by the maximum of five years with the agreement of both countries.Russia as well as the US have officially extended the agreement by five years on February 3, 2021.
