Tel Aviv, Aug 6 : After Israeli airstrikes killed many people, including the leader of militant group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in the Gaza Strip Numerous rockets were fired towards Israel from Gaza according to reports in the media. Air raid sirens were heard in several Israeli cities however the rockets were shot down in open terrain or were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defence system according to the dpa news agency according to the Israeli military.
The military arm of the PIJ said on Friday evening that missiles were launched in response to the killing of PIJ chief Taisir al-Jabari.”We’re taking on Tel Aviv and the cities of the center and the area around it with over 100 missiles,” the statement read.
Prior to that in the day, the Israeli military struck various areas in the Gaza Strip following threats by the PIJ.
According to Palestinian sources according to Palestinian sources, at least 10 people were killed in the Israeli attacks, including five-year-old children as well as others PIJ members.At at least 75 people were injured.
Both the Palestinian Ministry of Health and the Israeli army confirmed the death of al-Jabari.
According to Israel’s military, PIJ military bases and structures in the Gaza strip were also targeted by the airstrikes.
On Monday, PIJ leader Bassem Saadi was detained in the West Bank town of Jenin during an Israeli anti-terrorist operation.
The military arm of the organization, known as the al-Quds Brigades, subsequently threatened to retaliate.
The PIJ is especially active in the Gaza Strip, from where it regularly launches rockets against Israel.The group has close relations with Iran.
The Israeli military has cordoned off areas along the border of the Gaza Strip for several days and increased the alert level.
Israel continued to attack Friday evening.The Prime Minister Yair Lapid declared: “The Israeli government will not allow terrorist organizations to establish the course in the towns that lie on the border of Gaza Strip.Gaza Strip and to threaten Israeli citizens.Anyone who wants to strike Israel must be aware that we will be there to them.”
