The precedent is set by the repeal of farm laws; Oppn and farm leaders

New Delhi, November 21st : .Two days after Prime Minister NarendraModi declared the abrogation of three controversial farm laws, there are still ripples across the political spectrum, with farm and political leaders feeling divided about the decision.
There are questions about whether the repeal of laws, which the government fought for for many months as necessary reforms, would be a precedent to other reforms.Other bills or acts that have been introduced are also being considered, including the Citizens Amendment Act (CAA).

Avik Saha (secretary of All India Kisan Samiti), gave it a Constitutional twist by saying, “I don’t believe this should be seen as farmers’ victory because we weren’t here to win or lose; we just wanted to tell our elected representatives what is important to us.” This is a huge victory for democracy, and a major defeat for authoritarianism.

He said that the bud of democracy, which had been shrinking, has now opened.Looking to the sun, the voice and strength of the people should be louder and stronger to force the authorities to listen to them.

Jaiveer Shergill, spokesperson for Congress, stated that “Repeal of farm laws would be an admission of guilt and misadventure by PM Modi who, being intoxicated, seems to have underestimated power, will power, and resolve of farmers.”

Shergill stated that repealing farm laws would not exonerate the BJP government from the crime of killing 700 farmers.Shergill added, “The decision of repealing farm laws is a setback to PM Modi’s dictatorial style political politics.”

According to the snap poll by IANS-CVoter conducted in India just hours after Modi announced the cancellation of Indian farm laws, Modi appears not to have lost his image or political capital.Over 52 percent of respondents believed he had made the right decision.

Close to 43% of respondents agreed that repealing farm laws would encourage trade union leaders and other workers to resist changes in labour law. However, 25% of respondents couldn’t give a definitive answer, which indicates they have doubts about the effectiveness of labour reforms.

Saha stated that while the decision may have an effect on other policies, the Constitution mandates that there be consultation.

This decision ensures that in the event of any further reforms, such as the National Education Policy (NEP), or the Labour Code, sufficient mobilization occurs, then the government will take into consideration the voices of the people.

Prem Shukla, spokesperson for BJP denied that it was a precedent-setting decision.

Prem Shukla, spokesperson for BJP said that the Prime Minister does not care about his image but rather prioritizes what is best for the country.Above all, the unity and integrity are of national importance.

It is therefore impossible to repeal CAA and similar laws.Since 1947, CAA has been the nation’s pledge since Mahatma Gandhi was alive. From Pandit Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India (UPA-era Prime Minister), to Manmohan Singh, Congress leaders have betrayed Gandhiji.”
