By Saiyed Moziz Imam Zaidi New Delhi, Nov 20, : , After Friday’s announcement by the Prime Minister of withdrawing farm laws, clamours are growing for the repeal and restoration of Article 370 Jammu and Kashmir.While leaders from Muslim countries have called for the withdrawal of UAPA and CAA, leaders from J&K demanded that Article 370 be restored.
Winter session could be a hotbed of opposition, as they seek to sabotage the government following the cancellation of farm laws.They consider this victory against the government.
Although the opposition might press together their demands on Article 370/CAA there could be divisions within the opposition ranks, as some may not want to take the chance of raising the question of CAA and 370 before polls in five States.
While the leaders of the opposition might be happy that the government has retreated from the farm law issue, analysts believe that if Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and 370 are raked, it will serve as fodder to the BJP.However, the Muslim leaders think differently.According to them, the CAA agitation was halted due to Covid.
Now they believe that it is time for the government also to step down.
People who wanted to challenge the government but believed they couldn’t with Modi’s “brute” majority, have new hope after the success of the farm agitation.
Leaders from Kashmir also demand Article 370 be restored.Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba mufti stated that “Desecrating the Indian constitution in order to dismember and disempower J&K” was only done to please their voter.
They should also correct the wrongs done in J&K between August 2019 and now.
Farooq Abdullah, a former chief minister and leader of the JKNC, stated that Article 370 and 35A must be restored by the Union government.
People from the Muslim Community and other segments of society are most opposed to the CAA, claiming that it is discriminatory.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind President Syed Sadatullah Hussaini said that “we now urge the government also to look at other anti-people laws such as CAA-NRC and anti-Constitutional laws, etc.and make sure they are too withdrawn at their earliest.It is a great relief that Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally agreed to meet the needs of farmers.
The losses could have been avoided if it had been done sooner.
Navaid Hamid (President of Majlis-e-Mushawarat) stated that all draconian laws including the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and CAA must be withdrawn.
Minister whose son was implicated in killing farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri should be fired immediately and all farmers who were killed during the Kisan Andolan must receive adequate compensation.
According to Muslim leaders, the CAA movement encouraged farmers to take action against farm laws.Also, the government must immediately withdraw CAA.
“Once more, the truth is out that success can be attained if an organization runs with honesty and perseverance for a valid cause.”
