The roadmap provides an up-to date analysis of how industry recovery might progress over a few years.

Chris Roberts, Chief Executive of TIA, stated that the Roadmap was based on the expertise and opinions of two dozen tourism leaders.

It provides guidance by industry for industry so that tourism businesses can plan for a variety of possible pathways.

“Even though operators may disagree or make their own decisions, this roadmap work will serve as a foundation for their business planning.

Roberts stated that not many private sector or government analysts cover tourism so this information could also be used to ensure better considerations of tourism across a broad range of processes.

He said that international visitors to New Zealand should be able to travel without the need for Quarantine.

“We know it will take a step-by, but the best way for us to get on the road ahead is the first few small steps.

According to Xinhua news agency, the Roadmap analysis showed that there is a potential 16-billion-New Zealand Dollar additional loss in foreign currency earnings if there are delays in the removal of border restrictions.

Since February 2020, border restrictions have already caused losses of 26 billion New Zealand dollars in international visitor earnings. The analysis shows a 23-billion New Zealand dollar loss over the next three years.

However, this could rise to 39 billion New Zealand Dollars if we delay our reconnection to global markets.

According to the Roadmap expert group, the new standard for travel is emerging around the globe, but New Zealand is ahead in terms of logistics and connections, and possibly decision making.

The next 12 months will be influenced by government policy, but New Zealand is considered a safe destination and there is a lot of demand.Additional uncertainty is caused by the impact of new viruses on global travel.

The main challenges for 2023 will be the availability and cost of air travel as well as international competition from other destinations. However, a partial recovery is possible with a return of the new normal in 2024.

New Zealand’s tourism sector is a significant part of the national economy. It contributed approximately 6 percent to the country’s GDP before Covid-19.

According to Stats New Zealand, it was New Zealand’s largest export industry, contributing 20.4 percent of total exports. It directly employed 8.4 percent of the New Zealand workforce, before Covid.1 New Zealand dollar equals $0.70 Dollar
