RBI will tighten the rules for the loan recovery agent

Mumbai 12 August : The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday stated that businesses must be sure their recovery agencies don’t engage in harassing of anyone while trying to collect debts.
The time for the call for recovery has been scheduled between 8 a.m.and 7 p.m.

“It has been discovered that the representatives employed by REs have been averse to the guidelines that govern the outsourcing of financial services,” the RBI said in an announcement.

“In light of concerns that arise from the actions of such agents, it’s recommended that the REs must make sure that their agents don’t resort to intimidation or intimidation of all kinds, whether physical or verbal, against anyone in their efforts to collect debt or in any way that is designed to make a public spectacle or invade the privacy of the debtor’s relatives, referees, and friends or sending out inappropriate messages via mobile or social media platforms, making threatening or anonymous calls, constantly calling the borrower, calling the borrower between 8 a.m.and after 7 p.m.to seek the recovery of late loans as well as using false or misleading statements and/or claims,” it added.

“The current guidelines for allowed hours for calling the borrowers via phone for recovery for recovery purposes are in effect in regard of Housing Finance Companies and REs that extend microfinance loans.In light of recent developments, including the increasing incidences of inappropriate practices that are being practiced by REs and REs, the Reserve Bank of India has issued additional instructions to REs by expanding the coverage of the guidelines.” the circular said.

The focus of the RBI Governor has been drawn to methods used by some firms to collect debts.
