Doha, Qatar 20 November : , Lewis Hamilton, seven-times Formula One World Champion came up with an amazing drive Saturday that put his Mercedes in pole position for the inaugural Qatar Grand Prix. Max Verstappen is Red Bull’s champion and has 14 points to spare.
He will be joining him in the front row Sunday, but was almost half a second slower during Saturday’s floodlit night session.
Hamilton was quickest at 1:20.827 seconds over the Losail International Circuit, which has seen MotoGP racing in the past.This was Hamilton’s fourth pole for the season, and his record-breaking 102nd.
Valtteri bottas, who had continued his excellent form on Friday, led Hamilton in an unsettling Mercedes one-two during the last practice session for the Qatar Grand Prix.
Bottas has won three of the four last races’ pole positions and was fastest in Friday practice.He also ran the fastest time in one minute 22.310 second and was 0.78 faster than Hamilton.
Red Bull’s champion leader Verstappen is currently 14 points ahead of Hamilton, with three races still in the Middle East.Verstappen was third fastest, but 0.34 seconds slower than Bottas.
Hamilton stated, “Yesterday was really hard for me — that practice yesterday really struggled,”
He said that he was there until midnight working with engineers to find a variation I could improve.”Then you need to take it through to qualifying.”
It was a beautiful track, and I felt great on the last lap.Hamilton said that although I felt a little sick from Wednesday, I was able to sleep well and it made a big difference.
