Subodh Kul, ex-Executive Director at Indian Oil, and RGAI President said that the pact was a way to advocate for the preservation, promotion, and protection of renewable gas in order to increase market demand.

Maninder Singh (RGAI General Secretary) stated that they encourage the production of renewable gas from any feedstock, and will use competing sustainable technologies to all ends-use applications.

This will allow us to increase our potential, primarily because of the abundant agricultural feedstock that is unutilized — there are an estimated 140,000,000 tonnes of residues generated each year — and the growing use of CNG or bio-CNG.

CNG is the most economical fuel than petrol or diesel.

Ashish Kumar (Managing Director at VERBIO India Private Limited), the company that has set up India’s biggest bio-fuel plant, in Punjab said that the renewable gas sector could be one of the most promising sectors for Punjabi industrial growth.

A surplus of between 20-25 millions tons of agricultural residue per year results in 31 MMT GHG emissions within a period of 75 days (mid September to mid-Nov).The next great opportunity could come from this enormous amount of waste, which is the renewable gas sector.

This memorandum is designed to establish an investment facilitation platform for industry stakeholders in order to encourage growth and investments into the renewable gas sector. It will provide an interface with the government (central government and agriculture departments of the state governments), academia and end-use areas of Punjab.
