Punjab CM leads a cavalcade with 58 news one’s, drives bus

Chandigarh : , Dec 29, 2009: Chief Minister Charanjit Chaney of Punjab inducted 58 buses in the fleet of 842 new vehicles that were added to the state’s fleet for the first ever time at Rs 400 crore.
The bus was driven by him and he led the convoy of new buses, flagging it off here from his official residence.

The Chief Minister inducted the 30 first-tier buses of Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation, (PRTC), and 28 for Punjab State Bus Stand Management Company, (PUNBUS).She also congratulated women and students who now have free travel on the buses.

Channi reiterated his government’s determination to offer the best services to all citizens and said that 105 bus terminals were being built or renovated at Rs 400 crore.Channi stated that in addition to issuing 1 406 bus permits, there would also be 425 additional bus routes.

The Chief Minister praised Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Transport Minister, for all he did in the past three months.He said that the Transport Department has seen a revival due to strict action against tax evaders and bus operators who are erring.

Channi was accompanied by Amarinder Singh Raja Warring (Transport Minister), who stated that crackdowns on the mafia-run state transport system have resulted in significant increase of department revenue.He also said that nobody would be permitted to embezzle commuters, and transparency, efficiency, and effectiveness are his top priorities.

The Transport Minister thanked the Chief Minister and said that the department had seen an increase of daily revenues to Rs 1.50 crore in three months.
