Puducherry 10 August : In a unique change the Puducherry legislative assembly, which began for the budget session was adjourned sine die following the speech of the Lieutenant.Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. In the speech the Lieutenant Governor stated that the Union Territory government had incurred an expense of the sum of Rs 9793.29 crore, which was less than the total cost of 10 414 crore.She declared that the amount that was incurred was the largest in the past four years.
Sounderarajan has also highlighted several accomplishments of the state government in 2021-22.
The Lieutenant Governor also stated that the government of the state was determined to provide education, health, clean drinking water, job opportunities and also to guarantee the socio-economic growth of the population of Puducherry.
Following the speech of the Lieutenant.
Governor after the address, the motion of thanks was proposed by BJP members A.Johnkumar, seconded by the All India N.R.Congress (AINRC) legislator A.K.D.Arumugham who also serves as the whip of the government.
The legislators were anticipating an announcement of the day of the presentation of the budget, as the Chief Minister N.Rangasamy had reached the area late on Tuesday night following his meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Speaker R.Selvam however said that there will be a discussion regarding the motion of thanks to the Lieutenant Governor’s speech and that the time for that will be announced in the near future.The Speaker declared that the House was adjourned sine die , to the delight of everyone.
The opposition DMK and Congress were wearing black shirts and chanted slogans during the speech of the Lieutenant Governor in protest against the weaknesses in the administration.The opposition also called for a walkout of the assembly of lawmakers.
