Kolkata 8 August : The authorities of the Presidency Central Correctional Home which is in which Trinamool Congress leader and former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee is confined, have rejected the former’s request to have rice for both meals due to medical reasons.
A high-ranking official of the state Correctional Services Department said that according to the rules of the past the inmate receives rice at lunchtime and chapati during dinner.

“However, Chatterjee requested that rice be served during lunch and dinner.We are unable to do so as per the instructions of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar Chatterjee is diabetic, and the excessive consumption of rice is not beneficial for his health.We’ve informed him of the requirements on this matter and, since then, he did not make the request again.He was served fish on Sunday as did other inmates according to the rules of the correctional home that serve non-vegetarian meals on Sundays.” he said.

However, in response to the numerous requests made by Chatterjee who was arrested in the multi-crore West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scam authorities have accepted to provide him with a couch in the cell of his.

Prior to that, he was provided with four blankets.Chatterjee used two of them as an mattress and the remaining two were used as pillows.

But, Chatterjee frequently pleaded with the authorities at the jail to supply him with a cot because of the body’s structure and weight he experienced a number of difficulties lying down.Since Sunday night, he was provided with an extra bed in his cell.

In addition, the authorities in prison have not denied any special treatment for Chatterjee as a former minister.

The cell 2 of the ward number 22 of Presidency Central Correctional Home is equipped with ceiling fans and Chatterjee’s request to have table fans was refused by prison officials.

This particular area of the correctional home is a one of the most secure wards and the prison authorities maintain an eye on the ward all hours of the day.

It has been reported that Chatterjee has been still since he was brought to the prison on Friday night.the majority of all the time he lies with his eyes shut.He is scheduled to appear before the court of special appeal of Public Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on the 18th of August again.

His close friend Arpita Mukherjee who is currently in Alipore Women Correctional Home will also be brought before the court before the same court on the same date.
