Maha to Centre: Give priority to the booster dose for healthcare workers

Mumbai/New Delhi : , Tuesday, November 16, 2016: Maharashtra, facing the possibility of another Covid-19-related wave, urged the Centre on Tuesday to prioritize a booster shot of Covid vaccination for all health care workers.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope made the suggestion to Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya at their meeting in the capital.

Rajesh Tope, Maharashtra Health Minister, made the suggestion at the meeting in the capital to Mansukh Mandaviya Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare.

Besides the booster jabs to the healthcare workers, Tope urged the Central government to roll out the vaccination programme for children below 18 year of age as early as possible.

Tope also requested that the Central Government provide booster shots to healthcare workers and to start the vaccine programme for children under 18 years of age.

As a measure to speed up the vaccination process, the state minister urged the central minister to “reconsider the current guidelines of keeping a gap of 84 days between the two doses of Covishield (vaccine) and reduce it to 28 days”.The state minister asked the central minister for a speedy vaccination procedure.He suggested that the “review the existing guidelines” of keeping an 84-day gap between two Covishield doses (vaccine) be reduced to 28 days.

The state also sought approval on budget allocation for human resources in the supplementary Programme Implementation Plan (PIP) under the National Health Mission to prepare for the likely Third Wave.In preparation for the third wave, the state sought to approve budget allocations for human resources under the Supplemental Programme Implementation Plan (PIP).

Tope also sought clearance for the proposal to set up Cath Labs under the supplementary PIP of NHM, which had earlier been rejected, at his meeting with Mandaviya.Tope sought approval for his proposal to establish Cath Labs in NHM’s supplementary PIP.Mandaviya had previously rejected it.

While Maharashtra has shown a declining graph of Covid-19 new cases and fresh fatalities, the state government is not taking any chances and is on high alert to tackle the potential Third Wave if it strikes.Maharashtra’s Covid-19 death toll has been declining, but the government of Maharashtra isn’t taking chances.It is alert and ready to deal with the Third Wave.
