She accused Elon Musk of not paying enough taxes, bragging about it and Republican Ted Cruz also accused Musk of “looting” America. Jayapal tweeted: “Elon Musk earned $36 billion one day but is proud to have paid an $11 billion tax bill.” He also has more wealth than $270billion since the outbreak of the pandemic.
It’s time for the wealthy to start paying their fair share.
Cruz responded to the tweet late Wednesday night: “Got it.It’s not your thing @elonmusk.Who do you wish to loot from?
Jayapal and Cruz were both waiting for Musk’s response on Twitter.Jayapal is an outspoken critic of Tesla CEO Musk for not paying sufficient taxes.
Nearly $280 billion is the net worth of the world’s wealthiest person.
According to reports, “With a top rate of 40.8 percent, he faces an estimated $10.7 billion federal tax bill.”
Musk also stated on Twitter that he will pay $11 billion more in taxes this fiscal year.
He tweeted, “I will pay more than $11 billion this year in taxes,” last week.
This disclosure was made as Musk and other billionaires in America are under increasing scrutiny for the tax they pay.
Musk began selling billions of Tesla shares in November.This involves paying over 53% combined tax, according CNBC.
ProPublica published an earlier report this year that Musk had paid no federal income taxes for 2018, while only $455 million was paid in taxes over the four previous years, despite having a wealth of $13.9 billion.
