The letter read that the Prakasam district people and farmers were facing many difficulties for years for cultivation and drinking water needs.

The Veligonda project was treated as an unlicensed project under the recently released Gazette by the Union Ministry of Water Energy. It was mentioned in this Gazette that only five projects which are currently under construction / completed in Telugu states are in the Partition Act.Also, it is mentioned in the Gazette that the project is completely against the Partition Act.

The letter recalled that Section 85 (7E) of the 11th Schedule to the Partition Act mentions Handri Neeva, Telugu Ganga, Galeru Nagari, Velugonda, Kalvakurthi and Nettempadu as the legal projects. The letter said it was unfair to remove and portray it as an ‘unauthorized project’.Prakasam district is one of the 50 lowest rainfall districts in the country.

They asked the union govt to include the project in the Gazette.
