Tripura political violence affects party’s reputation, PM: BJP MLAs

Agartala 23 Nov : , Dissident BJP MLAs Tuesday stated that violence in Tripura had damaged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reputation, credibility and party.This could affect their chances of winning the next five assembly elections.
Sudip Roy Saha and Ashis Kumar Sha, rebel MLAs from the ruling BJP, said that the Supreme Court of Tripura High Court and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah needed to intervene in the violence in Tripura prior to Thursday’s civic elections.

Barman stated to media that he had informed J.P.Nadda (National President), B.L.Santhosh, the National General Secretary (Organisation), and Himanta Biswa Sarma (Assam Chief Minister) about the political violence that has damaged the reputation and credibility BJP.” Barman referred to Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb as a “paratrooper leader”, and stated that BJP’s motto is “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas”.

“Why so much violence in the elections if the BJP government of Tripura has made development during 44 months of its governance? By creating hatred among people, no party is able to survive.”

A former Minister, the BJP MLA said Tripura had seen many Chief Ministers, but that the current Chief Minister does not follow any political grammar.”Despite the violence that has been taking place in Tripura lately, Biplab Kumar Deb (the state home minister) has not made a statement.The police have become powerless.He claimed that CPI-M goons were incorporated into the party, and are now being used to gain political gains.”

Barman urged the citizens, different organisations and local clubs to stop the violence and ensure peaceful, fair and free elections on Thursday.He said Tripura is accustomed to witnessing elections with festive spirits, but that this time, a reign in terror has been established.

The BJP MLA wrote earlier in the month to V.S., describing the prevailing Tripura condition as extremely serious.Yadav requested that certain regions be declared hypersensitive and vulnerable, and peaceful elections are held.

After Barman was fired from his position as Health and Information Technology minister in May 2019, following disagreements with Chief Minister Biplab K.Deb, open dissent and interne dispute broke out in the ruling BJP.

A BJP MLA, and a planned Caste leader Ashis das joined the Trinamool Congress at a rally attended by Abhishek Banerjee, the National General Secretary of the party.

Das is still being investigated by the BJP.Das, four other BJP MLAs — Sudip Ray Barman, Ashis Kumaha, Diba Chakra Hrangkhawl and Burba Molan Tripura – held a large gathering in Agartala in August which attracted many local BJP workers and leaders.

Ajay Jamwal (BJP’s North East Zonal Secretary) had rushed several times to the state to quell the rebelliousness within the party and establish good governance.

Three BJP MLAs, Ram Prasad Paul and Sushanta Choudhury from BJP were present at the state to induct Bhagaban Chandra das into the Tripura Cabinet.This was the first expansion of the BJP-IPFT alliance (Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura), which took office March 2018.
