At an event for press, JIH Vice-President Engineer Saleem stated: “The role of the Gujarat government in ensuring the release of people who have been convicted and sentenced to life in prison in the Bilkis Bano gang-rape case as well as the killing of seven members of her family is inhumane.”

“Such decisions intended to reap political dividends to please a specific group of people are extremely unpopular,”

He declared that the JIH regrets the ruling and prays the Supreme Court intervenes in the case to stop this heinous injustice that was committed under the cover of the official policy of the government.

“The remission policy must be extended to those in jails for minor infractions not for serious crimes such as murder and rape.” he said.

If government officials of state are permitted to release criminals of their choice under an remission program despite being in prison for crimes such as murder and rape, it will be the mockery of our judiciary, and citizens will lose faith in the power of the law.

“This will surely encourage criminals as well as their masterminds because they’ll be sure of being rescued from the system in the near future or not, even if they are having committed the most horrible crimes.” added Saleem.

The way in the way these convicts are praised and praised is quite deplorable.

Jamaat-e Islami Hind has sought the President’s intervention in reverse the decision of the release of convicts to stop the institution of administration and justice from becoming and ineffective.

Notably, Bilkis Bano was 19-years-old and was pregnant for five months when she was raped by gangs while fleeing the violence that broke out following the Godhra train caught fire in Gujarat in 2002.
