The upcoming film Adipurush, which stars Prabhas, has been the target of criticism since its starting, with many online trolls citing poor visual effects as a major issue. Some fans have also expressed disappointment in the film’s director, Om Raut, for choosing an animated-like approach to the movie.
During this time, the film has found itself caught up in a significant controversy as a police complaint has been filed against the filmmakers in Mumbai.
The movie’s producers are now facing legal trouble after a Mumbai resident filed a police complaint against them.
Sanjay Dinanath Tiwari, a self-described preacher of Sanatan Dharma, alleged that Adipurush’s new poster has hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. The complaint was filed with the Sakinaka police station by advocates Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra of the Mumbai High Court.
Tiwari stated that the character of Lord Shri Ram, as depicted in the poster, is inappropriate and contrary to the nature of Ramcharitmanas, a Hindu religious text. The poster allegedly portrays all Ramayana characters without Janeu, a sacred thread with significant importance in Hindu Sanatan Dharma.
Tiwari further claims that the poster’s portrayal of Lord Shri Ram in costume is contrary to the spirit of Ramcharitmanas.
The complainant in the case against the makers of the Bollywood film ‘Adipurush’ is demanding that an FIR be filed under Section 295 (A), 298, 500, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Adipurush had previously sparked controversy over the depiction of Hindu deities and the low quality of visual effects in its teaser, leading to boycott calls. The film’s portrayal of Lankesh, the demon king, with a beard and buzz cut was also criticized for apparent Islamisation.
Originally scheduled for release on August 11, 2022, the film’s release date was postponed to January 12, 2023, and is now set to premiere in 3D on June 16, 2023.
