Poland tightens Covid regulations to combat Omicron variant

Warsaw, Dec 8, 2008 : In response to the proliferation of Omicron variants, the Polish government announced new restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19 infection.
“The situation is stable,” Adam Niedzielski, Health Minister, said Tuesday at a press conference.”The number of infections is almost the same as it was a week ago.” It is a serious threat for the health system if these numbers do not decrease.

The Health Ministry states that restaurants, bars, and hotels will be limited to 30 percent of their capacity starting December 15.This is unless patrons are able to show proof of vaccination by using a QR code (quick response code).According to Xinhua news agency, such checks must be done by the businesses themselves.

On the same date, nightclubs and dance halls will be closed and public transport will operate at 75% capacity.

New Year parties are allowed, but only 100 people will be permitted.

Certain professions will have to be vaccinated against Covid starting March 1, next year.

These include teachers, health professionals, and uniformed personnel such as police officers and soldiers.

Coronavirus testing will be required for anyone who travels to Poland from countries outside the Schengen area that is not vaccinated.

Anyone who tests positive will need to be quarantined.

Since November, Poland has been reporting approximately 20,000 new infections per day and 500 coronavirus-related deaths every day.
