On the occasion of New Year, director Gunasekhar officially announced that Samantha Akkineni will be headlining his upcoming mythological drama ‘Shakuntalam’ which is based on Kalidasa’s eponymous work.The news was unveiled through a motion poster with the hashtag #EpicLoveStory indicating that the big-budget project will explore the love story of King Dushyanta and Shakuntala, daughter of Sage Vishwamitra and the heavenly Apsara, Menaka.
The actor playing the role of King Dushyanta is yet to be confirmed by the makers. Now, the makers have shared a sneak peek into the sessions of their preparations for Samantha’s look in the film.
Sharing the photo, the makers wrote, “Working on getting the look together! For the Forest Dweller, Nature’s Beloved, ethereal and demure “Shakuntala” in #Shaakuntalam | A sneak peek into our sessions @Samanthaprabhu2”.The National Award-winning costume designer Neeta Lulla who worked with several blockbuster movies ‘Devdas’ and ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ is supervising the costume designs of Samantha.
In the picture, the designer along with her team are seen discussing while Sam is sitting in a chair with her hair in rollers.
Gunasekhar has been working on ‘Hiranyakashyapa’ for the past four years where Rana will play the respective role meanwhile he has started the pre-production of ‘Shakuntalam’ as the former was postponed due to its massive scale.Mani Sharma has been roped in to compose the music, the project is expected to go on floors soon.At present, Sam is awaiting the release of her web series ‘The Family Man 2’ which will premiere on February 12th 2021.
She is also currently shooting with directors Vignesh Shivan for the Tamil film ‘Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal’ and has an untitled project with filmmaker Ashwin Saravanan.
